The Garden Tomb in Jerusalem. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is the site traditionally associated with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Over the centuries it has been transformed through a process of veneration, designed to give the site a sense of beauty and importance. In the mid-1800s the Garden Tomb was uncovered and has been preserved intact with a desire to keep things as close to what Jesus would have experienced. Although the evidence leans toward the Holy Sepulchre as the more likely historic site, both locations are visited by thousands of pilgrims yearly.
