“Homer,” a Great Gray owl at Montana Wild Wings, lost one of her wings when she was struck by a vehicle. Since she cannot be returned to the wild she has become an “educational ambassador,” an animal that gets taken to public presentations to allow people the rare chance to see and engage with some rare species in person. According to Lone Pine State Park Ranger Derrick Rathe, the most important thing a person can have if they witness a bird struck by a car is the phone number of who to call. There are two local bird rescue organizations. Montana Wild Wings can be reached at 406-250-1070, and the Montana Bird Lady can be reached at 406-249-7800.
