After the Fire

Detail of the Matthews family Bible. The family home was recently destroyed in a mid-December fire that started late at night on account of a wiring problem. Both stories of the home were fully engulfed and Hayley Matthews and her two children, Darien 12, and Kaden, 10, said they were lucky to escape. They were not able to take anything with them. As they watched their home burn Hayley Matthews described being amazed to see the Bible seem to come flying out of the flames to land on the hood of their truck. The pages can clearly be seen to be warped by the heat, but the book is not burned. The family has taken this as a miracle, one small thing to take comfort in as they head into the Christmas season. Hayley said regardless of all they lost, they were grateful just to all be alive and together.
